Boston Photo Booth Trailer For Weddings

How and Why we built Lucky the Photo Trailer

After two years photographing Boston weddings at CityLux Studios, we noticed that half the weddings we attended had photo booths. The Styles, options, and prices were all across the board…

We thought about adding some sort of photo booth to our own wedding services but ultimately held off because there were already so many out there and we wanted something unique.

One day we were flipping through a magazine and came across an old camper that had been converted into a wedding bar. Then we saw this horse trailer that had been converted into a mobile wedding bar. We thought that the idea of a bar on wheels was such a cool concept… and then it hit us. What if we created a unique mobile photo booth using a horse trailer for weddings?! It would be perfect not only for brides and grooms, but also for anyone hosting a party, bridal shower, baby shower, or any professional or corporate event.

Over the fall and winter months, we searched and searched and searched. Most of the trailers we came across were either too expensive, too far away or simply weren’t “the one.” We finally found the perfect sized 1979 horse trailer waayyy up in Maine. After looking through the photos, we just knew. She was the one.

Then, in the early winter of 2019, Lucky The Photo Trailer was born.

Lucky was in rough shape. Like, really rough shape. She was covered in rust, chicken feathers and broken egg shells. The road to redemption was going to be a long one, but she had good bones and a whole lot of potential. We knew that once we removed the dirt, grime, hay, rotted wood and swiss-cheese looking metal, that she was going to be absolutely beautiful.

TIME TO GET TO WORK

When we got Lucky, we assumed (like people usually do with most projects) that it would be much faster, easier (and less expensive…) than it actually was. We figured it would take a few months to fix her up and be ready by summer to bring to some weddings. Well, that was wrong on a whole number of levels. A lot of the work was way past our abilities to get done on our own. Our estimates for bodywork and paint were off, and trying to build something custom would take much longer than we ever anticipated.

PUTTING Lucky ALL TOGETHER

While we wanted to make Lucky more modern & polished, we also wanted to keep some of her original character that we fell in love with. So we polished up most her but made sure to keep a few dings and dents. Atop the trailer sits a custom lighted sign, and we installed wiring with a way to plug her into standard electric. Inside we can also plug in other electronic devices like twinkle lights and speakers. As a finishing touch and to give her a fun vibe, we put together an entire look using chairs, rugs, plants, and other small details. We wanted to make Lucky inviting and somewhere to hang out at your event. Not only is Lucky an awesome photo booth, but she’s also a whole experience for you and your guests.
The actual photo booth itself was our vision and it was custom built by us. Lot’s of DJs and photographers buy and use the same setups from other companies, but we wanted something built tailored to us. So we created a custom wood box for our booth and built it to our own specifications. We put together a high end touchscreen laptop, with a Canon Camera, nice lens, lighting, and speedy printer.

We think Lucky is awesome and hopefully you’ll feel the same! She can’t wait to meet you.
